I have a 2000 Crew Cab, at highway speeds there's an annoying rattle that sounds like it's coming from the upper back of the front door/window. I can't seem to isolate this, anyone else have this? It also occurs on the passanger side as well.

 

Yes, We have it on our 350 also, not all the time but right up above and behind your head on the front door. Never found what it is and it never seems to happen under the same circumstances twice.

I think that all us super duty owners has experienced a nosie at one time or another. I have a super cab, and it rattles all the time, evean more so when going over pot-holes/ large bumps.
Oh well, it IS a truck lol.

 

Super Duty trucks are known to rattle in the crew cab or super cab configurations. You can adjust the door strikers and latch mechanisms. Do a search on rattles and you'll find out exactly how. There was a post on this subject not too long ago.

Take a #41 Torx Head and loosen the strike plates. The black plates at bottom of door well. Bump them back with a hammer and re-tighten. Lube your gaskets around doors and prest.....no more rattle.

 

Yeah, I too hear a rattle on the drive side door. Only because I thumping massive sounds. Then I turned it sounds off, it rattles, i'm curious but cannot seem to find it when driving. Sounds like it's coming from the panel, the switches for windows and mirrors. I dont know might be wrong.

On crewcabs, if it's only happening at high speed then it's the plastic plate between the 2 doors. The rear of your front door is a little further in than the front of your rear door. This causes the wind to "flap" the plastic plate. Put some tape over the gap and test drive it - if the high-speed noise is gone you found the problem. How to solve it....well that'll cost ya! Haha!

 

Try a little spray silicone first. If that does not work, tighten up the strikers. At first they look as if they won't move, but if you rap 'em firmly, they will move. Just make sure you don't losen them too much, or they will spring back to where they were. I outlined mine with a pencil first to make sure of how much I moved them. What I did learn was this.....the rattle is actually the gasket rubing on itself....you see it is a "tube" if you will, and the internal surfaces are rubbing each other. You can take the tube from the spray silicone and spray into the small "vent" holes on the gasket to get some lube inside the gasket if you want. But most likely, you just need to compress the gasket a little tighter by moving the door striker in a little bit.

I have to give credit to FortyFords, though because he gave me the encouragement to tackle the job of adjusting my doors without the pain of having some apprentice body man at the dealer mess them all up......so I believe I owe most credit to Forty for what I learned about this subject.

you have to get the doors to close tighter by moving the stricker plate back, youll probably have to replace the bolts, ive explained the process many times, search door rattles, ive done it to all my doors and have instructed others on the same process, now we are all Rattle FREE!!
