ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Anchorage police say car racing could be to blame for a serious accident Friday night.
Police say two pickup trucks traveling at a high rate of speed right next to each other slammed into a small blue sedan at the intersection of Elmore Road and Dowling Road. The drivers of the trucks appeared to be OK, but the driver and the passenger in the sedan were injured.
"At this point, I don't know what the injuries as far as how serious they are, but the people in the little blue car, they -- both of them were cut out of the car to get them out of the car," said police Sgt. Lee Rohwer. "And I know that there are injuries involved, but how serious at this point -- I don't know."
Rohwer says the sedan appeared to be making a U-turn as the trucks hit the car.
At the same time, another accident took place just down the road at Dowling and Lake Otis Parkway, this one involving a black SUV and a police car.
It's not clear whether the officer was responding to the crash at Elmore, but it appeared the driver of the SUV and the officer were OK.
