Widest tire on a 15x5.5

If you look at the tire manufacturers specifications for tires, you will find that most list a range of rim widths for each tire. On a 5.5" wide wheel, the widest tire you can run (according to most tire manufacturers) is a 215 (e.g. 215/75R15). I currently have 225/75R15's on my 5.5" wheels and in the past I had a set of 235/75R15's on them. The 225's look like they want another half-inch of rim width. The tread has a slight arc to it, bulging very slightly at the center. The 235's looked bad on them - like they were being squeezed to death.
