And since I hate looking at wiring diagrams, does anyone know if there's a switched 12v source under the hood? Maybe something I can pull off the trailer 12v wiring or something?

They're just pass thru wires. They're blank on the other end too. I'll use one of them if I have too. It seems like we've already used the customer access wire under the dash, but maybe that was something I've used on my truck and hers is still available.

Oh, and we got to hear them before we bought them. Holy cow.

Where did you get those?
I like the idea of the solinoid right at the horn, you don't have to pressureize the line before the horn blows.
Very precise control.

You looking to power the pump?
You could use the fuel bowl heater lead to power a relay that powers the pump.
Or either one of the small power wires that go to the glow plug relay or the intake air heater.
Definately use a load reduction relay, I think those compressors draw a sizable amount of power.

I used to but you might say I've changed a few things on my truck since then.

I got them at the truck fest put on by 4wheelparts this weekend. When we were walking around the floor looking at stuff we heard them go off and had to go over and find them. Not too bad for $230

Thanks Dan. I was almost thinking along those lines but don't understand how a relay works quite well enough to come up with the idea on my own. Looking at the instructions that came with the kit, it shows using an 18 ga. wire (provided) connected to a ground, through the relay, to any switched power source. It shows fused power in as a 8 ga wire (provided) and power from the relay to the compressor as 12 ga so I'm guessing this must be some sort of power reduction relay.

I don't follow how a ground connection (or maybe it's not really a ground connection but just the same color wire as the relay ground) hooked to a 12v source will work.

I was initially staring at the AIH (now a non-functioning GPR) thinking maybe I could tie in there, but would need to study the wiring diagrams to understand which wire does what. The GPR has one of the small wires as a key on wire, right? I guess I can check it and the AIH tomorrow with a meter. I'd rather poke around with a meter than try and find the right wiring diagram in my dvd.

Fuel bowl heater is another great idea. I'll just need to think about that one some more. My knee jerk reaction is any issue with the compressor or pressure switch might cause fuse #30 to blow and unplugging the heater wouldn't get it running again.

yea definatly put the selanoid at the horns, not the compressor. they are harder to control when its at the compressor. i got mine off a duce an half from ww2 and i wish i would have done it the other way...

i mounted mine inbetween the grill and the radatior. fits good and is LOUD
