Does Pete's Filter Cover Quiet up the 6637 any?

Cause my new 38R sucks my AIS filter-minder to about 1/2 way or a tad further. I will go back if Pete's filter muffles some of the psssssssssssss for 4k+ miles pulling the 5th weel.

I would say stay with the AIS setup. After the 6637 mod mine got louder with my setup.

Sorry, I don't think Pete's cover is going to help you at all. As mentioned, it will be louder than the AIS. I can make you a deal on ear plugs

I ran the 6637 4 or 5 years ago towing and the annoying psssssss drove me to the AIS shortly after. That was with a Stock and Modified Stock turbo. Now with the 38R it pulls the filter-minder to half way with out effort. I was hoping Pete's cover might quiet the 6637 down enough to convince me to go back. Cause there is no way I will listen to the previous 6637 for 4k miles again especially with the 38R.

Are you using the fender sleeve with your AIS? If not I really think that will help you out.

No fender sleeve. I was thinking how I would do a DIY fender sleeve mod between know and Thursday.
Maybe just drill some holes in the housing under the filter. More specifically in the bottom for any moister to drain. I don't know.

DIY Fender Sleeve Mod thread begins, now!

I hated my 6637 when I first put it on. I actually took it off and put the stock air box back on. When I installed my Van Turbo I thought I'd give it a shot again. I was very surprised when I took it out for the first drive that is wasn't as loud. Now I barely notice it. I can only assume its because of the 1.15 A/R housing vs. the stock .84 A/R housing. What housing are you running on your 38R?

Not to somewhat hijack a thread, but i have the 6637 as well for a while and the noise it makes on long trips just gets very old. ANd in near future going to a 38R so Looking to switch intake setups and was looking at the s &b or afe stage 2....so just curious if anyone in this thread has any experience with either of theh 2 i mentioned with regards to noise compared to the 6637 setup.

Jason you have been around long enough to know the answer to that. You can turn up the radio, it seems to help. I have been looking at a way to quieten mine down a little.

You could just use a hole saw and drill a hole in the side but you'll obviously get some hotter under hood air in there. Then you can run it like that and if you decide later to add a sleeve the hole will be in the correct spot. I think they are only $25. But if you insist on DIY, the instructions can be found online with pics and if you can find some high density foam with a big enough inside diameter it would be easy to shape it yourself.

I've got a 6637 on my truck. The wife has an AFE stage 2 on hers. Stock the 6637 is louder. I built a box around my 6637 and it brought it in line with the AFE and made it much quieter. We put an ATS ported housing on her turbo to fix the surge issues with Tony's tunes and the whistle is now much more pronounced on her AFE than on my stock 6637.

Bottom line is the more mods you add, the louder things are going to get.
