351w bellhousing number query

I've been offered a 351w bellhousing - part no. D1TA6394 AA (cast iron-not alloy)

I know these were used in early 70's Mustangs with 351W's & C's, but are they compatible with an NP435 in our era trucks? I don't have it to measure & compare.
Also, were they for mech. &/or hydraulic clutches?

Thanks

The early separate style bells where all designed for mechanical linkage clutches. Don't know about compatibility, but if I were to venture a guess, I would say yes, except if it's from a car, it may not accept the larger flywheels and clutches that are found in trucks.

Depth may also be different. Truck bells are deeper.

Measure twice, buy once.....

OK. So maybe, maybe not.
Can anyone give me the depth of the normal truck bellhousing, face to face?

Thanks again

From what I've seen in the junkyards, I'm not aware of different-depth housings for cars vs
trucks (at least the F1xx-3xx series) but anything might be possible, this would be a good Q
for NumberDummy.

While it may not have been intended to fit a 351W, it will, since the 240/300/302 shared the same bellhousing bolt pattern as the 351W/351C.
This is by no means a promise that it would work for your intended application, but I suspect it would accept the NP435, since it was a direct swap for the BW T98/T18, and all of those were found in various models using the aforementioned list of apps the bellhousing was originally used in.

I've seen this bellhousing now, both the transmission & block bolt patterns appear correct but the casting looks only about half the normal depth ....is anyone able to measure their bell depth (302/351) for me to compare?

Bill, I've since found another bellhousing - alloy, casting no. E4TA 7505 DA, which is 6 1/4" deep.

Will this be OK with an NP435/351W combination, in my 83? I'm converting from the original AOD trans.
If possible, I'd like to use mechanical clutch linkages to avoid firewall problems.

I understand my engine to have come from a 77 or 78 car.

Thanks again
