1994 F150 E4OD Shifts hard and possible shudder
1994 F150 E4OD shifts hard and there is a shudder that happens at 45 MPH or when it shifts into O/D, and seems to be apparent throughout the gear in real small bits like you can feel it come and go slightly but rhythmically. I did have a u joint noise Ding 1 time checked them they seem good (gonna change both anyway). I just got this truck and slowly going through it.
Gonna change the tranny fluid and filter. I hear e4od are notorious for shudder and it only seems to do it in O/D.

Yea I second that, fluid and filter change first, don't add any shudder fix just yet.
Don't fill it with anything but Mercon, you'll need 17 or 18 quarts (dependent on 2 or 4 wheel drive).
E4OD shifts hard
Hard shifting or suddenly "slamming" the gears suggest other problems, be sure and check for trouble codes before disconnecting battery. If you disconnect it any helpful info, if present, will be lost and you might have to start from scratch.
No code reader is necessary, a paper clip will do the trick in a pinch. However a cheap reader does make the task easier!
If your not sure how you only need ask.

ok, it wasn't u joints. I got a hold of Dr. Trannys instant shudder fix and it stopped the "shudder" but days later I noticed it was starting to shudder now at idle and more and more as the days go on.
I knew the shudder fix was not a permanent fix-- so I flushed and filled the transmission (13 quarts), but to no avail. It still shudders and appears to be getting worse.
But every once in a while it quits for a few seconds then comes back-- I plan on replacing whole transmission w/ new TC-- but for now I'm trying to score a New used TC (freebie!) from my my Ford buds.
It wasn't an E4OD it is a 4r70w.
