Rear axle clunking noise when turning
Hi,
I have a 2004 F-150 Lariat (2WD) with the limited slip differential. About two years ago I experienced the well-known shuddering sound when turning. I had the problem corrected at the dealer.
About a month ago I noticed a faint clunking sound coming from the rear end. It happens only when turning. I pulled the wheels and found about 1/16" of play when I push/pull on the hub. The axle seals are not leaking, and it happens on both sides, so it appears to me that the problem is in the differential.
Has anyone experienced this problem, and if so, could you give me some advice or recommendations as to how to proceed in correcting the problem?
Thanks in advance.
