Thats right reading is in fact a skill, I said it!!! That means when your are getting ready to throw a 2.5+ inch dual exhaust on your stock 351w, all because you read it in Hot Rod magazine. Turn the page and read the rest of the article. The part that describes the list of mods done to that engine, to flow that large an exhaust!!! That would explain why my truck is such a dog, long tube headers and 2.5 inch duals, and no other mods. I must remember to drop the previous owner a thank you note!!! Remember....reading is a skill!
And if Dan could read, He would understand that the reasons for not putting longtubes and 2 1/2" true duals on a otherwise stock 351 is a General AUTOMOTIVE Discussion.....
Man, I had 2" duals on a heavily modified 300, I couldn't imagine going much larger than that on a stock V8. I put a 2.5" single and glasspack on my Eagle and it sounds like a Dodge diesel, a station wagon gets some odd looks with that kind of noise.
Lets see a total of 5" exhaust must mean you are pushing at least 400hp right? lol I fault exhaust shops just as much, most do not bother to even show a customer an exhaust chart for what kind of power they have, instead bigger must always be better.
(I swear someone told me this with a straight face)
"If a restrictive exhaust system could help torque or horsepower, every Top Fuel dragster would have mufflers"
Dan, Simply explain to your wife.
This is the perfect reason to port your heads and get a big cam!
thats why i put 2" on my 95 bird . i had the bigger is better bug and ordered a 2.5 inch kit then cancelled after listening to others . my 4.6 was basically stock and the big pipes were going to move the powerband into the unuseable range and make it a dog . so ......... bigger ain't always better .
