Gettysburg Day Trip Info

Hello to all my FTE brothers & sisters in PA!

We're going to be spending part of a week in Hershey in June. I see that Gettysburg is about an hour away from there and I'm thinking about driving down for a day to check it out. It will be me, my wife, and my 4yo daughter.

There's a bunch of stuff on the web but since I'll only have one day I thought I'd ask folks who might be familiar with the area to help me figure out what to see.....

So, if I only have one day in Gettysburg, what should I make sure I check out?

And, are there any must-eat restaurants in that town to hit while I'm there?

Finally, any other tips for visiting Gettysburg?

Thanks in advance!

LOL... I just realized nobody ever replied to this. So, I will for future searchers/finders of this thread.

We spent about 6 hours there and that was definitely enough for a good visit and an intro to the place, but you'd need several days to take it all in.

There's a huge visitor's center & museum with alot of info. That's where we started. Here's the place:
Gettysburg Visitor's Center & Museum

We also took the auto tour which is layed out really nice. They have great signs (see the red/black sign with a star in the pic below) that guide you through every intersection and every turn you need to make. You can buy a CD and listen to the details of the war as you drive the tour. We bought the CD but ended up not listening to it due to lack of time.

There's about a zillion monuments & signs and its basically mission impossible to take it all in. Particularly in 8 hours.

I can't offer any info on restaurants, we just ate in Harrisburg on the way back.

I would like to go back for a few days and do the auto tour the way you're supposed to, and also to check out some of the smaller museums and gift shops in town.
