95 f150 catalytic converter

Ok this is REALLY buggin me.. I have the 302 5.0 and im lookin into gettin my exhaust done (I have everything stock except a flowmaster muffler) some muffler shops are telling me that I cant take the 2 cats off and only put one in while other shops are telling me i can.... Im completely lost here. I live in an area of TX that DOESNT do emissions testing BUT we came really close one year. IDK whether or not to knock it down to one or just replace both with Magnaflow cats. Im told that the newer cats are more effective than the older ones so one should be enough right?

Someone fill me in here!

Thanks and God Bless!

Try giving the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles a call at 1-888-368-4689 and ask them what is legal.

It is allowable (& cheaper) to replace the dual Cats w/ a single hi-capacity Cat on f-150's. They should go up in pipe size coming out of the Y connector or Cat life will be decreased & it also increases exhaust flow. I did it on my 87' 302 & my smog test results were very good. If it's legal in California, it's good anywhere in the U.S.!

Just up from the size coming into the Y. The shop know the right size, but I think 2.5 sounds right. W/ a full flow , non-restricted muffler.

I have seen many OPs post the same question and ask about that Magnaflow pipe/converter. It's a well made piece and reasonably priced if you shop around. It is designed to fit the factory size exhaust pipe. It also carries a 49-state certification. A win-win situation if you are staying with the stock sized pipes.

If you remove the cats get a high flow cat and a good straight through muffler.

If you keep the stock cats get a glasspack with a Y on it (torpedo pack). Its the only way to really get any sound with the stock cats.
