Overdrive OFF light flashing on shifter

Hello All,

I own a 94 Ford E-350 ex-u-haul box truck. 7.3 Navistar Diesel engine. I noticed that my overdrive OFF light was flashing on my shifter. I engage and disengage it and it would not stop. The only time it would stop temporarily was when I shut the truck off. Or shift to park. The truck seems to shift hard now and then and the trans was rebuilt around 40k miles ago. Any ideas? Thanks.

Read the codes. The flashing light means something is wrong and a code was stored to tell you where to look. Without the code nobody knows what's wrong.

error codes

Where do you go to find out what the error codes actually mean? A friend is going to hook my truck up tomorrow to find out what the error code is but what then?Just bought this truck. Drove her twice and now this! The way it is shifting is painful.

You have an electrical failure in the Shift Solenoid "B" circuit that is keeping the solenoid from operating when commanded to do so by the PCM.

Probable faults, in no particular order:

Faulty PCM
Faulty solenoid
Faulty transmission harness (internal)
Faulty harness from PCM to transmission
Faulty connection at the transmission mating connector.

The workshop manual has step-by-step instructions on how to diagnose and repair.

I wasn't going to burst your bubble, but I knew that didn't fix it. Disconnecting the terminals cleared the codes which makes it run like normal until the PCM detects the problem again.

There are instructions above on exactly what you should do. Either that or take it to a pro to fix it.

"Faulty connection at the transmission mating connector." Go for this one first. I had a similar problem. Mine became loose and was not seated all the way. Also had crud in the bottom of the socket from our latest flooding episode.
