I need to replace the sliding rear window in my 73 F100. I have the old window out, and have purchased a new rubber seal to use on the new window. Can someone tell me the technique/trick to installing the new window?
Mix dish soap and water to make a slimey mixture and paint the surface of the gasket that touches the body. Wrap a piece of 12-14 ga stranded electrical wire (automotive) around the groove where it fits into the cab metal flange. The ends need to be in the center at the bottom. Have someone on the outside hold the window in the tract at the bottom. As they push down and in (gently) pull the wire out slowly, ending up in the center at the top.

If this new gasket is like the original it is a one piece type and isn't too bad to install. If on the other hand it is the type that the length may need to be trimmed to fit, then do like what was mentioned already and put the ends at the bottom. Some glass shops will put urethane sealer in the groove that the glass goes into on the rubber to help keep it water tight and to keep it on the glass during installation. It can be messy if not done properly, so be careful. The soap and water will work until it dries up on a warm day, so use silicone spray for all around better use installing glass like yours. There is an extra benifit of the silicone being a water repellant to help seal out moisture that the soap can't.
