Ignition key/steering wheel lock problem

I have a 97 F250, PSD crew cab that is giving me problems starting because it doesn't want to let the key out of the locked position. I have to apply a lot of pressure to the steering wheel between the stops and turn the key hard till it gives slightly on the key and then when I release the steering wheel it turns normaally. Any idea whether it is the key, the lock or the steering column that is wearing out? I've got to get it fixed before it drives me nuts, but I need to know what to replace. Thanks

If you replace the ignition cylinder, you get a new key.... that should take care of that problem!

Thanks. That seems logical but I have a tendency to buy parts that don't fix problems so I thought I'd ask first. Do you know the removal process?

remove steering column cover, turn key to on position and you will see where you can use a small screwdriver or punch to release a pin and the ignitino will just pull right out. 5 mins max

Went great. Couldn't believe $58 for an ignition set but it works great. There is a hole to insert the probe device through without taking the cover off but it would be hard to do the first time.
