This is a great post on fixing your PDL ! I have read every post but maybe someone can explain how this resister being a solid piece of metal wears out or why it wears out ??

Although the square from the original picture looks like a flat piece of metal, it is actually a thermistor or thermal resistor. They work by varying resistance internally according to temperature. So lets say the door lock switch is pressed and held down...the motor starts to heat up...the thermal resistor increases its internal resistance due to the heat and wah lah() it is too much resistance to complete the electrical path and therefore will not let the door lock actuator function properly. By swapping this out for a solid piece of metal or tin foil, you are creating a short across the contacts or a zero resistance condition. Hope this helps.

Also I must add that while this fix does work. IF for some reason you have a surge or some other electrical function that goes to these motors it will FRY them. Ask me how I know. I was upgrading my leds and one of the soldiered tabs was a frogs hair too long and shorted out on the button function side and bam. All three of my Fixed door lock actuators are fried and won't even pull up and stay up. My fourth the one that was original that wasn't fixed is still able to be moved by hand (just not electrically). So be careful when doing this.

Does anybody know if this will work on a 2000 Expedition? It looks like the lock actuators are different.

No pics x2

Bringing up an old post to ask a question.

Will this work for the replacement for my 2000 EX rear hatch lift gate?

I've got a sluggish lock problem on 2 of 4 doors on my 2001 F250. It sounds like the resistor may be the first place to start with the repair.

I can't see any of the pics on this post. Is it b/c of my membership level or are they just not hosted anymore.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

They look like a redesigned unit from what I have now. If they do work out, you can't beat $40 shipped for all four doors!

These still holding up for you? That is a pretty good price if they last.

Probably bc the orginials were on photobook and the person moved the file so they don't show up anymore. Try the tech folder at the beginning of the thread or the tech folder in the excursion forum. Stewart might have added it there also.
