WHAT EVER HAPPEND TO THE NEXT GEN LIGHTNING?

the market just isn't there anymore for a regular cab truck. especially one that will break into the $30,000 arena with ease and most likely reach $40,000
If you look at the modern truck segment, the majority seem to be bigger/lifted. that, and Ford finally is giving the Mustang some added *****.
the L took over in 1994 when Ford neutered the mustang...and it wasn't until 2005 until the Mustang regained anything under the hood. SVT build some cool stuff (Cobra & L), but they just are too expensive.
Once the demand for the Raptor cools off a little bit, you'll see them alot more. A Raptor is about $4,000 more than a similarly optioned FX4. minus the lift and specialty pieces. So it's a very reasonable and cost effective sell IMO

I am forum jumping...sorry!
I had a '99 Lightning, and I miss her!
The Lightning was canned once SVT underwent some managerial changes. SVT, as it were, was more focused on ***** out performance before...thus the Cobra, Lightning, SVT Focus, and Contour...the latter two more mistakes in my opinion, but aimed at the tuner crowd. Once management shifted gears, SVT's performance was passed on to Ford, and now SVT deals with suspension and chassis modifications. The big hum in 2009 was STV had dissolved, yet you could still find SVT parts being sold on new cars...very confusing.
The Adrenaline is little more than a POS in wolf's clothing. When I had my Lightning, I went to a reputable Ford dealership and asked about it. Look at the sticker, it is all stock under the hood, lowered suspension, and a crap ton of plastic look fast parts. I simply asked to see anything that will hold its weight against my Lightning...the salesman was quick to point me to the newest Roush Mustang in the showroom.
There is still a market for a short cab, short bed truck. Furthermore, there is still a market for a fast short cab short bed truck. We can speculate all day long why the Lightning was canned, but in the end the results are the same. It is my opinion the Lightning will come back around, but in a tiered performance package more like the Roush stuff. Stage 1, 2, 3...so on. This would allow a stage one to be more of a looks package, stage 2 would be more like what we now know as a Lightning...decent performance upgrade and appearance, stage 3 would be something entirely different and exciting.
Thanks for letting me jump forums for a few. I wish I knew about this place when I had my Lightning.

2007-2008 F150 Nitemare
Hi, I own a 2007 F150 Nitemare, and i believe that this truck replaced the lightning, but they only made 100 in 07 and 100 in 08. This truch is very fast at 450hp and 500 ft lbs of torque.

I'm sure Roush, as smart as he is, figured he would be able to capitalize on Ford SVT's decision to no longer produce a functioning "super truck" able to haul loads and haul azz, so he had his team produce the Nitemare.
As nice as it is, the Roush Nitemare was not Ford SVT's attempt to replace the Gen 2 Lightning.

Just for kicks and grins I tried to "make" a factory Lightning.
Short bed XLT with a 3.5 EB engine...figured that would be a nice place to start...no go. only available with the long bed in regular cab versions or ext. cab....
BUT I could make a 5.0 shorty with regular cab and a 3.55 LS...now THAT might be a nice place to start. 360 HP and 380 TQ isn't too shabby on 87 octane. Get a tuner and use 92 octane and just imagine what you got then...swap the 3.55 with a 3.73 or 4.10...
and you would still be if I figure this right, less than what a Lightning would cost...including some decent tires and rims. The truck I put together was less than 31,000 on the ford website.
