Let me know what you use and if you are happy with it.

This is a highly debated topic and everyone has their own personal preference. Mobil 1 is a popular choice. Others use Rotella, Motorcraft, and Amsoil while others don't believe it isn't worth the money to switch to synthetic. You should be good as long as you use an oil that is CI-4+ or CJ-4 rated.

Use the search feature, there are hundreds of post on this topic. Also you might want to go the the 6.0L section of the forum for more specific information on this engine platform.

Mobil1 TDT is good oil. I have it in my truck right now! But not for long...

Of course the biggest benefit to using synthetic oil is cold starting. I'm coming up on an oil change and I don't want to pay for synthetic in the summer. Back to dino we go...

Remember that with regular oil changes synthetic is not going to make your engine last longer. The exception here is cold starting, which shouldn't be an issue in May.

Rule of thumb:

The cheapest available NAME BRAND 100% Synthetic Diesel grade (CJ-4 or better) 5w-40 beats the best dino oil of the same grade.

I am buying it for about $20 a gallon, using Valvoline... so far so good.

You can't buy 5w-40 dino oil!

Just be aware......depending on how many miles you have on it. I made the mistake of switching to syn after running dino on my '03 7.3l with 100,000 miles on it. Blew the HPOP and rear main seal because of it. I have run syn in my '07 since day 1 and no issues. I was told, have read and now experienced issues due to the seals not being tight enough for the synthetic after years of using dino.

I know on my 6.7L ford says not to use synthetic no matter what. They recommend the ford oil and a few other major brands but dont even offer a synthetic ford model.]

Dont know the reasoning behind this one

This is NOT TRUE. Check your diesel supplement! Look at page 42...should look something like this:

Note the requirements for 5w-40 oil for severe service? 5w-40 is a synthetic only grade, it can not be had in dino form.

Ford is telling you that you HAVE to use synthetic for heavy use!
