Bronco troubles

I bought an 82 or 83 Bronco 4X4 Lariat a few years ago. It was not running when I bought it and had been sitting around 4 years. Owner had just parked it and bought another vehicle. Tried to get my uncle, a mechanic with 20+yrs experience, to help me get it running. He took one look at the variable venturi carbeurator and said he would help me once I got a new carb. I have been all over looking for a regular Motorcraft 4-barrel carb to convert to, or just a regular old 2-barrel. (He told me that the Motorcraft carbs were the easiest to rebuild.) Can anyone help? It is in great shape, but a little weathered. Just want to get her running again.
Thanks!
P.S. THIS is how I feel!

My uncle told me to go with the Motorcraft, as it was the easiest to rebuild and pretty dependable. He has had trouble out of after-market carbs in the past. Also, don't want to spend too much money b/c it is not running yet.

Do you have a local junk yard? Could go rummage through the Ford trucks of your year and pull a 4bbl off of a 351.
Many of the 351s came with Holleys from the factory, so it wouldn't be too far off to get one. You could also check ebay, and get a used one to rebuild.

My first Bronco had the V/V carb on top of the 351. Biggest, most useless and worse piece of crap ever invented. Hot shot mechanic couldn't get it running (even after rebuilding it) Ford dealer tried to sell me a new one for $1100.00 (while mine only had 31k original miles on it) but eventually I dug into it and got it running decently. And then a month later it crapped out on us while trying to pull our boat out of the water from a beach in Baja. By the time I got her to finally start the tide had come up 2 feet, the boat (still attached to the fricken trailer) was a 1/4 mile away and we had 3 foot waves coming thru the windows. I would have left that thing right there on the sand except we were 700 miles from home. Sold her within 24 hours after getting back to San Diego. Never, EVER again........
