Gears, heads, cam, headers. Yep 300 BHP should be easy. Gotta' love the domestic small block.

On the other hand, a stroker kit would be nice, but maybe not worth it. Regearing the 4WD will sap some funds...

This is the question to end all other crazy dead-ends and cubic dollar mistakes.

Since it wasn't specified, I'll assume that the goal is to make this truck as fast as possible without regard to practicality, fuel milage, sustainability, ease of maintenance, or any other "kick-knack" reality check that we face when selecting parts and planning upgrades:

-Contact Boeing and obtain a RS-27A first-stage rocket left over from the Delta II program;

-With minor bodywork and some wind tunnel research, affix said rocket true to parallel to the plane of motion, compensating for the weight of the apparatus;

-Fuel up!

-Hang on!

I recommend ladder bars to assist with the suspension geometry shortcomings during the launch, and you might want to prepare yourself for the 4.5g's that are inevitable once the rocket achieves full speed. That'll teach 'em at the red light!

On second thought, if you don't have access to a large cache of liquid oxygen and hydrazine, you should probably warm-over that 302.

Again, echoeing zxwut, it all depends on what you want out of the vehicle.

-If you want to pull the motor, do a CHP 347 kit, or even safer, do an intermediate 331-stroker kit.

-Upgrade the cylinder heads if you are at all serious about power. I recommend AFR 165's for 302 displacement or 185's for strokers. Alternatively, use Edelbrock's Performer RPM heads and a cam suited to match. Your power potential's "ceiling" will be determined by your heads more than any other factor.

Yeap, I think the Boeing rocket upgrade might be cost-prohibitive, but it would be the "baddest thing on the road".

93-octane being as magical a liquid as it is, there's just no comparison to hydrazine and single-digit-Kelvin-oxidiser. Oh well. It would've been perfect with those ladder bars. -TK

I think even that starts with a 347 stroker kit.. big tires requires big TQ and that requires more cubes. But if you're going to do that it's more cost effective to just start with a 5.8 and add the stroker kit. Then.. you got something that could be considered Badassed.
