I'm tellin you, after the hydroboost and the hydraulic assist steering it's a ton better. I could turn the weel with the center nut if I had to now. Turn these 42's without moving with breeze

One comment about your pictures.

That pressure line from the power steering pump to the hydraboost looks awful close to the exhaust manifold.

dave you wouldnt happen to still have the part numbers for the direct bolt in version out of a 97 would you? i was interested in doin that to my truck

ok, few things here guys. it doesnt have to be a 97, hydroboost came on f-superduty's for a long time. next door neighbor has a 88 with factory hydroboost. second, get it from ford! its 350 to get it with the push rod, spring and spring retainer. if you get the booster from autozone its gonna cost another 110 bucks for the pushrod, spring and retainer and you cant get it from ford or a autoparts store. you gotta either try and find one in a wrecking yard or go where i went. takes longer then its worth. only save $50 and its NOT worth the hassle.

On the plunger and spring and star-retainer, anyone tried using the Chevy parts? Cause there are tons of GM vehicles that use them boosters, and they look identical to the Ford unit other than the mounting brackets, so I wouldn't be surprised if the plungers and such are exactly the same - actually I'm pretty sure the spring and the retainer are identical, it's just the plunger that may have a different length...

one more reason to go with the ford unit.... theres no core charge! when you go autozone or kragen its iirc a $50 core charge. thankfully i had that chevy unit to turn in and nobody was the wiser

Would this system mess with the hydraulic activated trailer brake controller I use in my IDI? I was thinking about this setup.

I installed one about a year ago and have had no problems with it. I did install all new brakes and rubber at the same time. The previous owner had eliminated the rear anti lock brakes...so far, so good. I've had to make some pretty quick stops...it's nice being able to stop quickly when you need to.
