Shifter Play

Did a search on this and can't find too much. I have a lot of play in the shifter of my 07' 250. The needle doesn't move things seem pretty tight in the cable and the indocator sits properly the play is actually in the shifter itself. It has a .5-.75" of play in it and just kind of flops around. I opened the column and found the bushing that sits around the shifter to be broken apart. I replaced that and it helped some. Is it possible the hole on the shifter itself had gotten opened up due to the bushing being bad? This is not affecting operation at all it just kind of irritating.
