My New to Me 2001 7.3 is Home
Well actually it is in the parking lot for work......but either way.
Drove it the 70miles home on the highway last night, took about 30 miles to get used to it. The 305's wander a decent amount and there is about 1/2" to 3/4" of slop in the wheel, but not too bad.
I kept it at 67mph at 1900rpm (3.73) and enjoyed the ride. It has a Magnaflow exhaust on it so there is some drone, but not bad.
My question to you guys is how far off is the lie-o-meter?
I had my GPS going and the speedo looks to be dead on with the GPS, which is suprising with the 305 70 16s, but based on how the truck was cared for, and that the previous owner was a fanatical mechanic, I would say he recalibrated for the larger 33" tires.
I babied it on the way to work this morning which is all side roads for 11 miles.........lie-o-meter says something very optimistic at 18.7mpg, so I'm going to hand calculate the mileage, which means I have to figure out how to fill up to the same level each time........any tips?
Thanks
Steve

Check your tierod ends and ball joints for looseness. You can tighten the steering box a bit if you like.Better with a partner moving the wheel side to side while you are doing it.Loosen the nut on top of the box. With a allen wrench socket, turn the bolt clockwise some until the play in the steering wheel is gone.Tighten the nut back down.Do not overtighten with the allen, you want the wheel to come back on it's own when you are turning left and right while driving.

I'm excited about the new acquisition, next step is to get a topper for it. My wife is thinking Leer 122 in matching black, which may be decent.
I'll play around with the mileage, I'm still stuck in analysis paralysis on switching tire sizes to reduce some of the wandering on the highway and some rolling weight......maybe 285 75 16 duratracs or something.
I don't believe there is a chip in this truck currently as I did go through it prior to buying, so I the lie-o-meter is probably in it's original semi-confused state.

Ive still got the factory standards on,265/75-R16's,was going to give it a 4" lift and 35's,but have found out that the laws are about to change in this NANNY country and they will only give you 2" bigger on your tyre's and 2" higher on your lift from factory specs.. SMBS.
Was thinking of going to something like 315/70 R16's and 2" lift maybe..
Would of liked 18" rims with 35 STT coopers...
I like ya black machine, this is mine

Believe me I was looking all over the place for a nice clean one......got as close to perfect as I could find, 80K miles, some decent upgrades, and clean......did I mention clean?
Next week we are off to look at toppers.
I really wanted a crew, but this was a really sharp truck so we made the move.
Now to fix some annoying dash items and solve more my tire dillema.....
Oh and yes, I would imagine I will be posting plenty....you'll get sick of me......
