Starting Problem

I recently bought this 1971 highboy and there is a problem with the starter not disengaging.
When you turn the key to just the on position it turns over and starts but the starter keeps spinning what could cause this?
Ive changed the solenoid check the ignition switch in another truck they are fine.
any help would be appreciated thanks.

I got the two small wires to the starter relay criss crossed, and when I hooked up the battery, the starter started spinning.
Did this problem just develop? Or do you think something got hooked up wrong?

I had this same thing happen while driving down the free way thou,I thought the tranny was going out at first when the starter engaged. Well later found the the key switch plug pig tail wires were all twisted around tight and over time the Hot lead in and the start wire had melted the insulation and fused together that's when the shxt happen.. Well after replacing a few parts that got cooked..I was good to go again..
Ps someone had removed the the little tin cup the key switch set into that keep it from turning.. So found one at the loco pick n pull and install it. That was the fix for me..
