What Kind of Muffler?
I Just replaced the Crossover on my 79 F250. My question is.. Should I put on a stock muffler, or a Glasspack. I would like a
little rumble, and I was told a stock muffler (with no cat) would do it. If a glasspack is recommended (Needs to be a low buget) the options at the parts stores around here are a Thrush, or Cherrybomb. I currently heve the crossover and 10 ft of 2 1/4 pipe. The truck is used for an occasional early morning (5am) drivway plow, and a short cruise a couple of times a week.
Any Opinions?
Thanks

I would opt for the glasspack over the stock set-up any day.
If you must go budget, that is as good a choice as any.
Remember, the longer the tube, the quieter it will be.
I am currently running a gutted cat to a single 30" Thrush glass pack. It has a low rumble to it, but it is actually pretty quiet. I almost wish I would have opted for a shorter one. You could also go with a cheaper free flowing turbo model. I was looking at one for like $20-$30, but I did not want to add another pipe to take up the lost space. 30" is what my stock pipe length was so I used that.

I think that i would opt for a flowmaster.. might have to save a little more but i definetely think it would be better. I have straight pipes (NO cats) and a 40 series flowmaster. It sounds alot like a throaty stang. It is kind of loud, but thats me. Good luck in your decision.

Any kind of chambered muffler w/o cats will probobly give you the rumble you'e looking for. Most of the aftermarket are good, they just don't the have "that sound" that will distinguish themselves from they crowd which is why they don't sell. The reason I say chambered muffler is that they last considerably longer ie, have no packing to burn out. Good luck w/ whatever you decide.

Wrecker,I've been toying with the exhaust on my 79 400.The cat is long gone but the rest is stock.Where the cat used to be is a piece of pipe if I remember right it was 2".There is no crossover, just stock manifolds joined to one.I went with a cheapo thrush muffler, and it sounds really good when it starts in the morning, exits in front of pass, wheel(single).I chose to do it this way so I can listen to different sounds, but I'm gonna go duals right behind the rear wheels when money is available to do it right.A quick question for the board :what does the crossover do as far as performance and sound? And what is the reason for it?John
