Can This Be Done Without Regret

I have a Dana 60 front axle out of a 78 F250 and I need to put 4.10 gears into it because it has 3.54 and does not match my rear 60. Is this something that I can do with some patience or am I opening up a can of worms. I also have the rear 60 with the 3.54 gears and could swap both axles and just leave it but not sure 3.54 gears and 37" tires would work to good. Thanks for any help.

yes you can do it. it might be easy, it might take a month of evenings to get the pattern right.

If the +/- numbers are readable on the original gears and you do the math right, you can get it right on the first try, however thats only happened to me once

go for it. The worst thing that can happen is you can't get the pattern right and you have to take it to a proffesional anyway.

37 inch tires and 3.54:1 gears won't work at all well. I think even the 4.10:1 gears are "iffy", depending on your engine and the way you intend to drive the truck.

I recommend you figure out where you want your RPM's to be and then pick the best ratio to accomplish that. You may find you'll need to go higher than 4.10:1, if you want to use your truck for any towing. Randy's Ring and Pinion has some easy to use calculators. Here's a link: Randy's Ring & Pinion. RPM Calculator.

Pretty sure you will have to swap the carrier too, I think the split is 4.10 and lower.
