03 F250 6.0L black smoke, loss of power on hills. HELP!

Hey guys need some major help here. I have a 2003 F 250 6.0L diesel. I replaced all 8 injectors and the EBP sensor, MAP sensor and the fan clutch motor. Fuel filters and oil changed.

152,000 miles on the truck

This was an issue before all the above was completed and is still a major issue.

The truck hesitates going up hills and sometimes on the freeway and blows out black smoke when it hesitates. It is mostly when I step on the gas it does it more often.

No codes showing up at the Ford dealership

Could it be the turbo or something simple?

I also here a flutter sound after I let off the gas from the motor more on the left side. Like a leak maybe or something.

Please help nobody at the dealership knows what is causing this.

Thanks in advance

With black smoke and no power, I always start by pulling the EGR valve and cleaning it (as well as cleaning the EBP sensor tube and MAP sensor hose).

In addition to what Bismic suggested I would take YOUR suggestion and clean the turbo according to the procedure in the 6.0 tech folder. Also, check all the intercooler hoses and the flex sections of the y-pipe from the exhaust manifolds to the turbo for leaks/cracks while you have the turbo out for cleaning.

Black smoke is caused from the engine being over fueled. In your case over fueled at the wrong timing, thus the low power. It sounds like turbo symptoms, but the black smoke is not usually a turbo symptom. Unless it is a little more bluish?

The air sound you hear is the turbocharger sticking causing it to surge back through the intake. If that is indeed the noise you have.

Another thing could be an FICM not fueling the engine correctly (poor metering and timing, black smoke/low power)

I have also seen a bad ECM cause a low power concern while under heavy acceleration. Weird thing is that I swapped an ECM from another truck and it fixed it and the the "bad ecm" worked in the donor truck. Switched them back and same low power. I just swapped them and let it go. Most confusing thing I ever encountered.

+1 here. i had the same symptoms on level ground at cruising speeds as you describe. thats the easiest thing to try first, and like cheezit said.

bismic nails this one.

A jammed EGR valve (with carbon particles) or exhaust valves will do the same thing.
