C6 transmission band FIX !!!

Hey guys, I'm getting too many stories about this problem and want a striaght answer before I dive in. The C6 tranny in my F-350 skips from 1st to 3rd gear. I just bought the truck a month and a half ago and really have not driven it much since the purchase, but its been doing this since day one. My question is: TO GET TO and REPLACE THE INTERMEDIATE BAND - - - - Do you have to get into the case from the front by separating the tranz from the motor, or can you get to the band by pulling the pan and VB? Thank you sirs!

My original thoughts when I purchase this truck was to install an E4OD, which I still plan on doing. With that said, I think I'll just perform a quick fix and install a snap type band in the C6 going through the pan. That should give me time to track down the parts perform the C6 to E4OD conversion, including different length driveshafts and linkage modifications. The the rear trans support member relocation will have to wait until I remove the 3 speed and install the 4 speed OD. Thanks for the links Big, already took a peek and have been helpful. Just hope the old band won't be a PITA to get out !!! Thanks again

Yep, its called a snap band..

You will have to remove the valve body to use one of these.

You cut one end off the old band and slip the new snap band up and over the drum, then put the end on it, the put the "wedge in and the strut rod and adjust as usual..

I'm not sure if they have them for the later model c6, but I know they were available for up to 79 models..

If you get the valve body off and see the intermediate drum is rough, you will have to disassemble as usual because if the drum is the least bit rough you will be wasting your time, talent, and money....

Yea, White, I feel ya baby ........ I will definately spy the condition of the drum - thanks for the advise. "roger" on getting the old band out !!! Not sure about talent, but would rather not waste time or money. Going to rain here for the next 3 days, so I may have to wait until next weekend to wrench the situation. Thanks again
