Date of manufacture needed, please
Hi,
can anybody help me find the definite date of manufacture of my truck, please ?
The chassis no. is F10C0R29537
The grille and hood makes me identfy it as a 1960 model so there is to celebrate a 50 years anniversary but what is the day to open the bottle ?
Any informations are welcome, thank you !

Well, thank you but it´s definately a 2 wheel drive !
There are some changes, about 15 years ago I made a IFS-conversion and the engine has been changed to a 400 before I bought it.
For a minute I thought could somebody have changed the truck from a 4wd to a 2wd but this should be very implausible. The front axle and suspension looked like standard and the rear axle still is. I assume (but do not know) the rear axle and suspension of a 4wd is different to a 2wd. Maybe the chassis no. is incorrect ?
And - is it possible to narrow down the date of manfacture to a month or a single day ? Would be nice to know at what day of this year I can open the bottle and say "happy birthday" ......

hm, when I got the truck 20 years ago there was no glove box at all and the glove box door had been replaced by a chrome one ....
During the restauration I found a date stamped on the heater blower motor : 29-01-60, but I don´t believe it helps on the manufacture date of the whole truck and - who knows this heater blower possible has been replaced, too ....

The factory instrument cluster should of had a date stamped as well as the radio if factory equipped. Although the those stamped parts are not the day the truck was made, they are close. There are numerous parts with date codes cast in them.
The only other info would be to find a truck made at the same plant as yours with a close serial number and go off that date.

All trucks use the same serial number sequence. This means that a F100 on an assembly line could be followed by a C Series Tilt Cab, which would have the next serial number.
Truck serial numbers include Econolines beginning in model year 1961. Include Bronco's beginning in model year 1966.
When Ford went to the 6 digit serial number sequence in 1961, all one needs is the specific serial number to find out what month the vehicle was assembled.
btw: Since FoMoCo was founded in 1903, the 50 year anniversary occured in 1953, not in 1960. The 1953 Ford Passenger Car's horn rings are marked 1903-1953.
Actually...FoMoCo was founded in 1902, but Henry Ford left the company before a single car was assembled.
The new company prez Henry Martyn Leland, changed the name to the CADILLAC Motor Car Co.
Leland left Cadillac in 1916, started a new company to assemble Liberty V12 aircraft engines for the war effort. He named the company after his favorite president: Abraham LINCOLN.
Leland went bankrupt in 1921, the year the Lincoln was introduced. In 1922, Henry Ford purchased Lincoln in Bankruptcy Court for 7 million dollars, he was the only bidder.

@ mr4speedford :
I just went into the cellar and found my old instrument cluster ( during the rebuild I converted it to VDO gauges ) but there are no stamps or just any numbers or letters on the housing or the instruments itself - maybe it has been replaced, too ...
.... and the radio .. as you may guess there was no radio when I got the truck. To abstract it : the truck was not in a good condition.
Well it seems there´s no chance to find out the definate date of manufacture as it would be easy on later build vehicles.
Anyway, thank you !

@ Bill :
Thank you for givin´me a quick update in FoMoCo history !
I didn´t mean the "50 years ann." relating to the FoMoCo,
it was meant relating to the current year 2010 and that MY TRUCK will be 50 years old now .... and it would have been nice to open a bottle on that specific day of assembling 50 years ago - maybe a bottle of that specific Zeller Schwarze Katz

Rubber stamps w/black ink were used to date parts...the ink faded away.
Look at the cluster at an angle, alternate the light source, the date may be visible.
btw: Ford had nothing to do with dating these parts because they didn't make them.
Most parts of vehicles are outsourced, excepting sheet metal and engines (and even then, who really knows?).
Basically what people have been buying, beginning circa 1948 after Henry Ford died (in 1947) and thru today is an assembled vehicle with a gazillion parts sourced from outside suppliers.
Prosit!

Colonel....
How can you date this truck from its 5 digit serial number?
1961 and later: There are parts catalog breakdowns month by month for blocks of serial numbers.
How is this possible prior to 1961? There are no serial number breakdowns listed for any 1960 or older trucks.
