04 5.4 60k low idle after warm up

I have cleaned everything but the throttle body. New fuel filter, air intake sensor and kn air filter.

Truck use to idle in gear around 700-800. Now it gets down to 500. If I put it in neutral it will go back up to 625. It also almost stalls when ever I stop the truck in gear. It gets in the 250-375 range and recovers to 500 after a few seconds.

Any body think my next move would be to clean up the throttle body. If so, I understand there is a cleaner specifically for it. Any helpful tips on cleaning the body. Is it best to remove it or can it be cleaned in place???

Your problem sounds exactly like the one I'm having with my '06. I had mine at the dealership 2 weeks ago and they thought it was from a dirty throttle body, but they cleaned it and I still have the same problem.

Sure sounds like a dirty throttle body to me. The primary cause of a sticking butterfly is the K&N filter. Don't get me wrong, I have one. The problem is a result of the oil charged filter allowing lubricant and particles to collect around the TB and the butterfly. The tolerences are very tight. I clean mine each time I change the oil. I have not had any problems since.

Sako75 that is one sweet rifle. I own three of them.

Well I removed the TB today. Had a very hard thick carbon type build up. Mostly on the body wall. I use the TB cleaner and it removed about 90% of it. I only had one can and ran out. I will be picking up the o-ring tomorrow so I'll get more cleaner.

I feel optimistic about what I found, but won't know if it works until I can put everything back together and load it up.

Will post results later.

I had the same problem, and it was caused by a dirty TB. I never had a problem till i started using a drop in k&n filter. So I would def agree with Sako about the oil from the filter. I now have the AEM brute force dry flow system. I like it alot. No oil to mess with.

I got my other can of TB cleaner and a spray can of MAF cleaner. Cleaned the TB some more. Cleaned the MAF sensor. I removed the KN air filter and went back to a stock brand new one for now. I will probably get an AEM brute dry air filter system later. Installed new o-ring TB to intake. I put everything back together and did a final run test.

Another success story. Wow what a difference. Now when I stop in gear, the RPMs never go below 500 and recover immediately. Just like it did when it was new.

Hope this helps others as it did me.
