fuel pump 91 E350

I didnt see an econoline section so I thought I`d try here.
I am a mechanic for a local schooldistrict. we have a 91 e-350 with a 5.4 L and the fuel pump has expired. The gas gauge has long ago quit working as well so I need a sending unit/ pump. The guy who gets the parts here says the local parts house can not get it and the local Ford dealer says it is not available. It is hard for me to believe that someone does not have this part. Any suggestions?
thanks mike

Ford did not use the 5.4L until 1997. Did you put this engine in?
If not are you sure it is a 1991?

If it is a 1991 and you have the engine size wrong an it is gas then any auto parts store and Ford will have the FDM that you need.

Only engines offerded in these vans were 300ci (4.9L) inline 6's, 302 (5.0L) V8, 351 (5.8L) V8 and 460 (7.5L) V8.

Local parts supliers have those parts around here.

Any auto part store should have an FDM for a 1991 5.8L E350.
This van should also have a pump mounted on the frame.

we have gotten a sending unit like the one in the picture. the one on this vehicle is different. The electrical connection is 3 wires grouped together forming a triangle and it bolts down as opposed to a ring.

Are you sure you are working on a E350 and not a F53?
The F53 bolts down on the fuel tank.

The F53 pump:

The sending unit looks similar to the f53 pump. Not exact but close.
The vehicle is a E350 cab with a cargo box.
