to me it looks like your manifolds are leaking pretty badly.

i would say scrub that motor really well so u can be sure that none of that is from the old pipes u replaced. but it does look like bad manifold gaskets of a cracked manifold.

Manifold leak. There is no gasket between the heads and the manifold, its a metal to metal mating surface. youre gonna need a new manifold, and it aint gonna be fun replacing it either.

They come from the factory without manifold gaskets but they are available for an exhaust manifold R&R. If the manifold is not to badly warped gaskets may stop the leak. If not the manifolds need to be decked or replaced. Peter (Duck Fan) replaced his manifolds with ceramic coated ones he got HERE. I'm sure you can also get them without the ceramic coating. Peter's write-up Thread Link.

Replacing the manifolds is not as bad as you would think. Jack up the front of the truck and support it with jackstands. Remove the wheels. Remove the fender liners. All 8 bolts on each manifold are right there in front of you. Plenty of PB Blaster. Torque on the manifold bolts to 38 - 42 ft-lbs. It is recommended to use new bolts.

My experiences are here in this thread: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...eak-fixed.html

I think its only the driver side manifold. I shouldn't have to replace both of them or is it a good idea to them both?

You could just put a gasket on

they are pretty thick. Depends on how outta shape your manifold is.

What causes the exhaust manifolds to leak? My 450 has only 68000 miles and I notice my rear manifold gaskets leaking ,only streaks right now. Not as bad as P1ick up Man's leak.

As mentioned there is no gasket fitted from the factory. they are a metal to metal seal. So if the manifold warps due to excessive heat or old age you will get a leak. You can buy new ones, have your originals re machined or use a gasket.

A lot of manifold leaks are caused by the bolts loosening over time. You can resurface them, doing only the one you need.
