What exactly do you mean by switch is stuck on 4x4? The button is physically stuck pressed "in"?
Are you sure are you its the shift control switch?
Just so we're clear, you do have a push button electric shift transfer case?
If so I doubt there is anything wrong with the shift control switch, unless the button is jammed "in" that is, more often then not the shift motor itself is stuck, needs cleaned and lubed and or its contact points are dirty, or you have a electronic shift control module issue.
Lightly taping the shift motor with a hammer will often jog it into movement, responding to the button again.
Sometimes the control module is hung up, lets say confused unaware of the motors actual position, disconnecting the battery will often clear it and allow it to respond to the control buttons like it should again.
Last resort, all else fails to get to 2 wheel drive, use a set of jumper wires. One positive, one negative, jump direct from the battery to the motor pins at the connector at the cross member, jumping it to wind the motor back to 2 wheel bypassing the motor position sensors and control box. Works until proper repairs can be made once the cause of the problem is determined. Of course that is provided the shift motor itself is "good", probably is they are pretty tough.

i replaced the little box in the dash, its electric, it says (low range or 4x4). the previous owner told me it needed a new switch, so i replaced it. the dash light says 4x4, i cant get it off. i went under and the front drive shaft can only be twisted by hand an inch or so in both directions. i looked under it and had a buddy driving, and it doesnt spin even though the dash light says 4x4. any help getting 4x4 working is appreciated, thanks guys.

Sounds like its stuck halfway or so, not 4h but not all 2h either, just enough to make the 4x4 light stay on.
Tap on the shift motor with a hammer or hunk of hard wood, you want to vibrate some it so it can move if its stuck. Push the "2 wheel" button just before you do so, it should flash several times as it attempts to move, but it might not. May take you a couple of tries to get it to go. If that doesn't work disconnect the battery for a few minutes.

Ok then on that one you simply push the 4x4 button again to go back to 2h? I haven't had one like that. Push it once to shift to 4x4, push it again to go back to 2h? Should tell you on the visor if I'm missing something.
The shift motor is right on the transfer case.
Look here, give you an idea what it looks like.

yes its a cylinder. slips into an aluminum mounting plate thats held on by 3 bolts/screws. if you replace it make sure to slip the 3 wires out of the old then plug them into your new shift motor. (3 wires appear to come out of the case rather than out of the wiring harness). it takes 20 minutes to put a new one in
