Millhead, I did use the shims with the new springs, MF=Mid Fiftys

JuliesF1-I rebuilt the stock drag link, we adjusted the toe and all was fine there. What ax said is exactly what was happening, old springs that were week twisting way to much.

Changing the springs fixed the problem, she drives absolutly great now!

Thanks for all the imput

So what seems to be the problem with your springs?

Not sure on mine, they are original and i'm installing a 3" drop axle and will have to see how it handles after. I'm also thinking of just replacing them anyhow.

Here's a couple of threads I started. I have all but finished swapping out both the front and rear axles. Maybe you can get something from my experience.

Bump Steer fix

A friend of mine informed me that on Jeeps with straight axles they often reverse the leaf springs to eliminate bump steer. I have just done that on my F1 49 ford truck and absolutely no more bump steer. When grinding off the spring hanger rivets, make sure you don't damage the hangers, it is extremely hard to find replacements. After grindings rivets flat, drill them a half inch or so and use drift punch to knock them out. Also I replaced leaf spring hard ware(bushings, spring eyes, etc) LMC truck parts. It's not an easy job for one person believe me and its a heck of alot cheaper than a mustang 2 steering. When placing the rear spring hanger up front, it should but up against the front cross member support rivet on each side. The front hanger goes to the rear in the middle of the old bolt pattern, also you will need to drill a 1 1/4 in hole in the frame to mount it and a 13/32 drill bit for the 3/8 x 1 1/4" grade 8 bolts. If you need more info on the process or tools let me know.
