Compatibility issues of 06 Van V10 into 2000 F350

06 e series into a 2000 f series
i have done the swap!
so out of experience, the difference between a 06 van motor and 00 f series are:
oil pan
oil cooler
ac compressor and lines
harnes
knock sensor
throttle body cable vs drive by wire
mouting bracket for heater hoses and fuel lines (behind the intake)
motor mounts (use you own from the f series)
pvc valve (06 has a sensor on it)
oil cap (van has a long snout)
some van has aux alt/ac's
those are all interchangeable no need to do anything to the heads, block, timing palte, injectors , just change those above mentioned parts.
must use your own harness!!! harness for the 06 van is made to integrate with the 5r110 and drive by wire systems!!!
pm me for questions about it.

It will work. The worse thing you'll have to do is make a small plate for transmission line up. As long as the oil pans will swap out, just do the switch. I'd personally run the extra alternator, especially if you haul trailers or plan on adding a amp or any extras and just run it. My dads swap from an E350 to an 01 f250 was just a simple switch. Oil pan and a few sensor plugs. It runs great

I know this is an old thread hoping someone is still following who can help. I have a 2001 F250 6.8L. I have the PI heads but are still 4 threads. I blew a plug and unfortunately the previous owner had "fixed" that one but the insert blew out so the repair might not have held. I would like to get heads that have 8 threads to hopefully never have this issue again. Can anyone confirm the 2007 E350 6.8 had 8 thread heads and looking at this thread it looks like they should bolt up to my 2001 6.8. Thanks in advance for any help.

Somewhere in 2002, the heads were updated for long spark plug threads. I can't answer exactly as to whether or not those heads will fit your engine, but in the Ford Modular world: I'd say they do.
From an NHTSA investigation into the plug ejection issue (that never went anywhere):
December 1996 - 4.6L 4V alignment feature added
February 1997 - 4.6L 2V head alignment feature added
September 2000 - WEP (Windsor Engine Plant) 2V head alignment feature modified (4.6/5.4/6.8)
November 2002 - WEP introduced long thread heads on 2V (all)
May 2003 - REP (Romeo Engine Plant) introduced long-thread heads on 4V 4.6 and 5.4
November 2003 - REP introduced long-thread heads on 2V and modified alignment feature
In 1999, and 2001, an interim fix was done for a cross-threading issue.
Original process:
Step 1 - Zero torque spark plug (air tool)
Step 2 - Torque to 16-20Nm final torque (DC Run down), monitor at 6-12Nm, and final torque must be reached within 0-360 degrees.
New process (addressed the possibility of applying installation torque for more than 25 degrees of rotation)
Step 1 - Zero torque spark plug (air tool)
Step 2 - Torque to 16-20Nm final torque (DC Run down) start monitor at 6-12Nm, and final torque must be reached within 3-25 degrees.
Another action to address cross-threading was the addition of an alignment feature to lead the plug into the hole.

Thanks for the information. Unfortunately the heads I located had damage so I didn't get them. Am I nuts to be worrying about the 4 vs 8 thread heads? I thought about just getting another 4 thread head to replace my 1 and installing inserts but what has me worried is the insert is what failed this time making it non-repairable. Now I don't know who installed that original insert or what type it was. How big an issue is the 4 vs 8 thread.

There are a lot of trucks out there running 4-thread heads. If you maintain the spark plugs, it's really a non-issue.
Also, from what I've heard, good inserts installed the RIGHT way will just not come out. I have no idea what insert you had, but Time Sert might have an oversized insert that will correct the problem, without removing the head.

I'm about to do this swap. I have a 2000 excursion with the v10, swapping a 2016ish E450 V10. In the interest of not thread jacking, I'm just going to start a new thread. Thank you very much for those who have provided all this info! I wouldn't have nearly the confidence to attempt this without all this info.
