rack and pinion for Volare frontend
Hey guys
I found a company that is selling rack & pinions for the Volare frontend. My question is has anyone on here done this before? Also I would like to put a 460 in my 51 truck. I know that one of the issues is the steering box. Are there any other issues other than that because if I use this rack & pinion setup that would get rid of the steering box.

Haven't done it but if the rack and pinion setup isn't too pricey it would save you a lot of grief installing the 460. You probably would not need to offset the engine and exhaust clearance would be improved. What is the company and how pricey is the setup? I have two trucks with Volare suspensions and one has a leaky steering box. Is the rack and pinion power or manual? Details man...we need details!

The companies name is Weedetr. They have two ways to buy this. You can buy just the rack & pinionfor 595.00 or you can buy it with the pump and rack & pinion for 1115.00 I talked to them a little about this and they had a lot of information to help out with this.
If this realy works this would give us old trucks a lot more to choose from other then a 302 or q 351w

I looked into this a couple of years ago and the only negatives I found, other than the obvious high price, were the reports of limited turn radius and possible bumpsteer issues. I am not sure why a R&P mod would give you more engine options...steering box size/clearance? If I had a truck with a Volare setup and was really set on a different powerplant then I would just replace the Volare with any number of MII IFS systems on the market now. John Niolin made the change and has a tech article on how it's done if you are interested. A MII IFS gives you more clearance and many more options for spindles, brakes, springs/bags, and shocks.
