Ok so today one of my co workers asked me some questions about tuning. We have had a few conversations reguarding his f150 and tuning... Apparently he was drinking with buddies and one of the guys decides he is a "expert" and told him that if you were to take 2 vehicles such as a gas and a diesel superduty use the same brand of tuner and then run them. The gas engine would win hands down every time. He has ridden in my truck twice (he is scared of it after a burn out session from a roll) so after arguing he called his brother the "real expert" I'm guessing since he is a diesel tech for case (tractors) and asked him to which his brother said yup the gas truck would win... I'm guessing that people still don't get how much of a gain a diesel gets from tuning alone. It also proves to me that just because you are a diesel mechanic you still have to validate your intelligence.
What a bozo, My v10 w/Hypertech max energy plus afew other mods, dont stand a chance against a tuned deisel, trust me I have tried. It would be a better race if I were geared lower, but 3.73 s dont get it done. Stock for stock maybe.
I told him when his truck (a dodge 1500 4.7) (lol) or a 5.4 or v10 was ready I'd help dispute the myth. I'm pretty sure there isn't Very much a tuned diesel won't walk.. Maybe a super charged lighting or harley, a syclone/ typhoon, or a srt10...
that guy is a idiot for saying that, my 5.4 has everything except a super charger and head work and my dads 200 7.3 will whoop me even with his crappy a$$ hypertech
TURBO Diesel wins everytime unless something goes wrong. Tunned gas will never beat a tunned diesel. I have a 5.4 believe me I know.
I added the turbo because n.a. A gas engine should take the diesel any day. The biggest factor for the difference though is the turbo. It will exponentially increase power because it can get more air. If you were comparing turbo diesel to turbo gas there would be a lot less of a difference. The big tq of the diesel would get it rolling but the ability of a gasser to wind out the rpms it would be close if there was a way to compare them.
