Motor Swap

What all needs to be done to switch my 4.9 to a 5.0? My Truck is a 1996 f150 with the 4.9 liter and a five speed tranny and i found a 94 with the 5.0 in it.

If your 4.9 is running good, I wouldn't swap it, you really won't gain anything except for a better sounding exhaust.

If your needing to replace a damaged engine then go ahead with the swap. You will need alot of parts like the motor mounts, computer and wiring harness out of the donor truck. Since your truck is a 96, its OBD II, so I'm pretty sure you need a 96 5.0 computer since 95 back is OBD I. I think it will be more trouble than its worth.

Sorry.. but if you're having trouble getting the existing motor running then a V8 motor swap into this truck is going to be WAY out of your league. Describe what problems you are having with the 4.9 and maybe we can help sort it out.

If you can't get the 4.9 to run, what makes you think you're going to be able to get the 5.0 to run?

I agree with Paul - fix the 4.9. What's wrong with it?

And "Should" and "does" are two different things, verify it has good spark when it quits just to be sure.

Wouldn't be the first time a "new" part was found to be defective. Odds are good its fine in that regard but until you check its still a question mark.
