Can park distance be turned off?

This probably can't be done, but a guy can be hopeful. On some vehicles like my wife's Grand Cherokee, you can hit the park distance system button and shut it off and it stays off until you hit the button again. On my SD, I can shut it off, but as soon as I shut the truck off and restart, it's on again. This is very annoying if you are towing or leaving the tailgate down with the bed extender in use. Does anyone know of a way to permanently disable the park distance system? I don't care if can never turn it back on as I never use it anyway. If I'm close I use the back up camera. Any solutions would be appreciated!!

On my 2010 SD I can shut it off for good using the setup option. I just selected OFF and it has stayed that way since.

I got all excited when I read your post, headed out to the garage, but no go. The 10's must be different. What does yours say in the display when you are shutting off the park distance? I don't see an option for that...

On my Suburban, its auto off when there is a trailer plugged in.. no such luck on my 08 F350..

I guess they heard the complaints and made it an optional setting on the 10's..

You could put some black tape on the sensor lenses.

I love the system and would not want to turn it off permanently.

When I am in SETUP, it gives me a screen sorta like <ON> <OFF> and I just highlight the option that I want. Once selected when I exit the setup routine, the options are set.

Not only that, but on my 2010 it's instance specific. When I'm backing up to conncect to the trailer a prompt is in the display that reads On or Off. I press the reset button on the gauge cluster and it is quiet for the remainder of the time since the last gear select. It's very handy because other wise I could not hear the back up directions coming over the SYNC controled cell phone call.

I see after my post that it DID NOT show the options that I entered. Basically there is a ON or OFF option in brackets that can be selected. When done, the system remains in that mode until changed. Many options including Auto Door Locking/Unlocking, Back Assist, Region setup, Metric etc...

Wouldn't tape cause the system to "sense" an obstacle?

That's what I thought, which would be a fun practical joke. A piece of black electrical tape all but disappears on the lens. But it blinds them instead. Don't ask me how I know this.
