Bought this gate for my 70 F-250 and want to paint it to match. It is the original gate from a '70 that was stored by a guy who removed it because he put a camper in the truck. Still has original paint and no dents and no bow. Aside from dust, it is basically a NOS gate. The moulding and name plate are cherry.



Can anyone instruct me on how to remove the upper and lower tailgate moulding and the ford tailgate panel plate without damaging them. I keep studying the gate and it looks like the clips or the aluminum is going to get damaged. Should I just mask off everything and paint around it.

i dont really know how to get it off, but i do know that you should not paint around it, dont take short cuts.....

 

the Ford is held on by rivits that you have to drill out. The verticle are bolted and the horizonal are clips.

 

Restring a '69 F100. I can see that the tailgate trim panel is held on by rivets. Anyone know the best way to reattach the panel after painting the tailgate?
