help on t-stat.

i will be replacing my thermostat housing gasket on friday due to a leak from it. while i have it all apart i had planned on changing out the thermostat, and also doing the upper and lower radiator hoses since mine are the O.E. ones from 95. my question is what temp. thermostat should i put in? i have looked around and i can get them from 165 deg. all the way up to 215 deg. i have not been able to find what the stock one is (degree rating wise). i know that most have the temp. stamped on the thermostat itself but i would like to have it there and ready when i start tearing things apart. i was thinking that bout a 180 deg. will do the job, but im not sure so i need some input! im live in KY, if that will make a difference on which one i should get.

truck is a 1995 Flareside with 4.9, standard trans., 4x4.

thanks.

Go to your Ford house and get a Motorcraft stock 195 degree thermostat. These are the best quality. And less likely to be Chinese made.

Or it may be a 192 degree-I cant remember which. But the important thing is to get the standard degree thermostat---what ever is stock. And if NAPA doesnt know-go to Ford. These fuel injected trucks need to have the stock degree thermostat to run properly.

I'd recommend the stock temperature stat as well.

I also recommend stock T stat which is 195 I think. I tried a colder one years ago and my truck just ran rich and got worse fuel economy and actually did not run nearly as good.

These guys are right... get a 195* stat. I think the motorcraft one is actually 192* but close enough. I think it's worth it to get one from Ford, too.
