Help me make an informed choice plz

Well hello boys,
I am new here but have been trolling for awhile I have two trucks in mind and I am looking to buy soon as I need a daily driver.
The first: 1959 Ford f100. Decent body, some bondo in the bed but not too bad. The guy installed power steering, windows, and seat. He did chop the cr*p out of the dash to install a stereo, now just a gaping hole. Heres what really worried me, he swapped out a 1985 crown victoria 302 which is now in the truck. There is a lifter noise when first started, but goes away when truck is warmed up a bit. Valves maybe? Tranny is auto 4 speed. Electrical is fine.
Heres a link:1959 Ford f100

2nd option: 1966 Ford f250 custom cab
Has been a daily driver and Ill let you see and read the ad. Im liking this idea a lot more because it is uncut an original.
1966 Ford F-250 Pickup Truck -Custom Cab-

Your feedback is welcomed!
BTW, numbers dummy must be genius! I wish he was here to go truck shopping with me

Daily Driver: the 1966, easy to convert to disc brakes, power steering can't be that hard to do either. Sounds like its pretty solid and unmolested.

The 1959 sounds like a can of worms, somebody couldn't leave well enough alone and is more than likely hacked up. Auto trans could cost you down the road.

You'll spend twice as much fixing somebody elses cobble jobs, than upgrading or restoring factory parts.

Welcome to FTE!!!

As you have already seen, there are a lot of really smart people on here!

By asking this question you are going to get a lot of different responses, but you will ultimately have to decide which way to go.

The '59 is much better looking, well in its own sort of way, then the '66. Having driven a '65 for about 5 years, there's one thing you won't like with the '66 and that 352 is fuel economy. Look for 8-12 tops.

Good luck with ever one you purchase!

Jeff

I had a 57 F100 for a few years and although the market is somewhat better, you won't find hardly any parts for it. For my tastes, the 57 was the better looking of the "shoebox" F100's. The 61 - 66 F100's are a big hit at most shows. Notice that the one you are looking at is an F250. I don't know that I've seen any of those at shows. I would agree with Jeff that you won't get any decent MPG's out of the 66. The 352 is the smallest of the FE blocks and the F250 is probably geared very low. I'll bet the transmission has a granny low that will pull your house off its foundation, but barely get 10 MPG's doing it. But unless the F250 has some bigger body parts, you have an excellent supply from the aftermarket and will find a lot of parts at swap meets.

Hi and welcome!

I would say that if you ask our opinion, you are going to get it based on what we like.

I'd just go with your gut and pick th eone YOU like best. Although usually someone who will cut a dash for a stereo is also fairly uninhibited in butchering up other things as well. I think the 66 sounds like a better starting point - if it were me making the decision!

From the pictures they both look pretty nice. But the original '66 gets my vote.

For me I'd rather fix a can of worms that was the year I wanted to build over having a perfectly fine truck that wasn't the right year. Course I searched every day for a year just cause I wanted a '56 and wouldn't have any other year...

All depends on what you want for a build or truck. I'm very year orintated and love doing ALL the work myself, things like that make a huge difference...

One thing I would add, don't settle on these if its not what you want. In a magazine article I read years ago - the deal of a lifetime comes along all the time.

well i have a 64 that was my daily driver before i moved to college and i still drive it whenever i go home. I really love that truck as it has got me and my buddies into and out of more than enough sticky situations. I also have a 59 that ive been rebuilding since the day i got it (early freshman year of high school). ive never even drove it because i drug it out of a field for free (see my gallery). i really enjoy working on the 59 and cant wait till its finally done whenever i get time and place to work on it. All in all if you like both styles the same and enjoy making someone elses screw ups your pride and joy then snag the 59(which said was deleted so maybe its sold) but if you cant afford to go out in the morning and have your truck not start or you just want to drive the darn thing instead of work on it go for the 66. hope that was sufficient to confuse you.lol.
