i just changed all four ball joints on my truck. the replacements are moog. the upper drivers sides grease fitting looks like it will snap off if i engage my 4wd. is there a smaller grease fitting available? any other options? thanks.

 

I put moog ball joint in a few years ago. I tried looking for zerks that could stay in the uppers also..I had no luck. I keep the zerks in the tool box & install them when its time to grease. Reinstall the moog supplied plugs when done greasing.

That's what I do too.

I have read quite a few posts where people grind the 90deg zerk slightly to clear the ujoints and it works great. I might try that next time I grease 'em.

 

I used washers.

 

That's what I did .... put the 90degree fitting to a grinder for a second.

I keep em in the tool box too. Thought about grinding them down but it still looked too close (plus I had no desire to try and get a broken fitting out). After a while, you get good at pulling the plug out and putting the fitting in.

 

Use the bolt you removed as a reference.

The zeke with the washer as a spacer need to match the height or be slightly less.

Grinder will also work.

 

I'm having trouble visualizing what you're talking about here. Which bolt? What does the washer do?

 

I think you 2 are on a different page...........I would just put them in when you need them.

 

Yeah, that's how I've done it all along so far. And if I ever do anything differently, I'll just grind 'em like others have done.

Anyone using a flush mount grease fitting? I was browsing McMaster-Carr last night and found some. The only downside would be using the adapter on the grease gun. I'm guessing it would take longer to grease. What do you guys think? Here's the link, they're near the bottom of the page. McMaster-Carr

 

I have the 90 degree fittings on mine, we ground off just a tiny bit and no problems with hitting[100,000 miles on them].

 

Look at where the zeke is fitted on the upper ball joint.
