Engine cuts out when wipers turn on. 7.3 Powerstroke

2000 F350. Just installed new CPS, IPC, Fuel filter.

The truck didnt want to run in the rain so I thought it was a water issue. While driving yesterday I noticed that the engine would cut out when the wipers went on. Not every time, just on ocasion. Check engine light would come on some of the time when engine cuts out.

I do not have code reader.

Please help.

Where did you get your CPS? This seems to be a common issue with the aftermarket CPS. The wipers create some electrical interference that get's in the way of the aftermarket CPS signal.

If the CPS is from Ford or International, unplug it and make sure the little rubber seal is still on the plug. Maybe even try coating the rubber seal with some di-electric grease to keep it sealed up.

The CPS is from Orielly. I dont remember what brand exactly.

I will take the truck into Ford to have Ford brand CPS installed for the recall.

Hope that helps.

Thank you

Replace the CPS, I had the same problem, solved it with a new CPS
Make sure to put your old ford Cps back in before you take it in, I don't believe they will put in a new one if they dont take out the old (ford) one out.

Make sure there isn't water getting to the backside of your fuse panel under the dash. Sounds like the typical water issue with leaking windshields. Especially since it happens when you turn your wipers on and its raining.

I had Ford replace my aftermarket CPS today with a Ford unit.

Drove home about 50 miles with wipers on intermittent, no cut outs. It was not raining. I had the wipers on just to test.

So far the Ford CPS seemed to fix the problem....this forum rocks!!!!

Same Issue!

I'm having the same issue with my truck. Every time I turn my wipers on, rain or shine, it stalls my engine. I also get the check engine light. I have tried to replace my wiper motor, which was not the issue. I have replaced my CPS 3 times, with aftermarket parts. I will pick one up from Ford today. However, does anyone have any other suggestions?

Yes.

As mentioned above, wipers causing a cut out or stall is 99.99% of the time the result of an aftermarket CPS. Replace with Ford OEM.

I bet it was a BWD cps. It does the exact same thing on my truck. The BWD cps makes my truck idol smoother, but, when it dies from turning on the wipers it's not so great anymore!

My BWD is a rare one. It smooths out the idle AND works in the rain
