6637 turbo whistle
Hate posting when searching can solve the question, but here I am posting. Did a bit of searching, and I'm a bit out of the loop because my trucks been running so good and driven so little.
'00 7.3 AT, turbonetics turbo, 4" TBE, 6637 filter. Non-relevant mods in sig.
Turbo upgrade rid me of surge/stall, but now I can stay in it for the whole hill and to be honest, the turbo whine gives my wife a headache. At 60 loaded it's the loudest noise in the truck. Will a different filter quiet this thing down? Remember that the AFE stage II was supposed to be quieter. Friend had the Ford unit and it wouldn't flow enough, even w/ sleeve mod. Just read some about a 6.0 intake mod, would also consider that.
Anyways, appreciate any feedback from anyone who's used the 6637 and any other option. Thanks!

no matter what you do its going to whistle or whine..its a nature of all turbo's... getting a differnt more restricted breater will raise EGT's and loss of power...maybe try insulating the cab...or take her for a ride in a truck with a 38R..you think the TN is loud...she will think yours is quite after that..

The AIS should be enough to quiet it down for her, but it *will* flow less than the 6637. You might try closing in the 6637 -- it may also work, depending on how sensitive your wife's ears are. Worse case, you may need to try a different turbo. My van turbo with stock wheel & ATS housing isn't too bad, and I run the 6637! Close it up in an AIS and it would probably pass your wife's ear test. And I can't make it surge, even drivivg it as hard as I am. I'd put that combo pretty high on your list if a closed air filter doesn't do the trick...
