1953-60 optional oil filter?

Ok stockers, if you look in your brochures and binders you'll see that a oil filter was an option. In regards to trucks with ohv engines and they must be ford(I know the early 265 chevys were not filtered), I will ask the following question:

I'm well aware that oil filters were not a mandatory thing in the past, but I'm curious if anybody has seen or owned a truck without that option?

I would venture to say that most of them left with filters. I'm sure the ones that didn't probably got converted over at some point.

Flatheads were a oil filter optional engine. This all came about while reading the options and prices in a dealer binder for 1960 ford trucks. I stopped and thought about all the trucks I have ever looked at and everyone had a filter.

The only filtration option I know of was the option for a spin off type filter rather than the canister type that was standard. This was in the mid 50's to early 60's.

Every Y block and every 223 I have seen had an oil filter. Generally, the canister type was standard. There may have been an option for a spin-on, as a kit was offered to convert canister type to spin-on. On the F750 and up there may have been different oil filter options, especially with the SD engines (401, 477, 534).
