5.8 No Spark or Fuel Pressure
Ok so heres the deal
We did a complete tune up on the van Monday and it ran perfect but as of thursday it will not start due to no spark or fuel. So i replaced the coil and fuel pump relay and got nothing. So then i pulled out the Ignition control module and had it checked at the parts store. It passed. So now im stumped. I also replaced the wire from the coil to the distributor and still nothing. I have put a spark plug in the coil wire and tried to crank it and no spark. I have laid the wire off to the side to see if it will arc and still no spark. Does anybody no what could be causing these problems?

Sounds like a bad PIP module inside the distributor, could also be the TFI module though.. I don't trust the auto parts store tests at all. If the computer doesn't get a signal from the distributor it won't fire the injectors. But fuel pressure is not related, the pumps should cycle for a second as soon as the key is first turned, if they don't check fuel pump and EEC fuses.

There is a little rotor inside the distributor with a series of windows in it that correspond to TDC on each cylinder, as they pass by the pickup coil a pulse train is generated and delivered to both the coil and computer via the TFI module. The coil simply amplifies this signal and sends it back to the high voltage side of the distributor, but if there is no pulse in the first place there will be no spark.

Wow... that sounds like a pain to do. But it's weird there isn't fuel pressure nor spark at the same time. I would say check the pigtail connector on the fuel pump, but that would only be true if the pump alone was dead... So just hear Conanski, he knows these engines like he gave birth to them... Lol.
