Frame off restoration on my 62 unibody

I in the process of doing a frame off restoration on my truck of 10 years... right now its sitting in a garage awaiting me to find a large compressor to run my sandblaster... in the mean time im looking for some parts and need to ask some questions.. first off.. I can find a hood anywhere!.. i need a staight hood ... other than that the body is good. I currently have 4.11 posi 3rd member im looking to trade in for some kind of hwy gears... so im looking for a posi 28 spline 9" 3rd member with more of hwy gears...

ok now here is another question that has been on my mind... about 5 years ago I took a 1973 longbed f150 frame... (which had to be shortened about a foot and a half) to fit under my short bed unibody... now.. since i have a 62 and the front cab mounts, mount aobut in the middle of the floor pan... I took the whole front floor pan of a 66 and put it in my 62 so that it would match the 73 front cab mounts.... does anyone think this would effect alignment? or the integrity of the frame... ...... anyway.. the main thing i need to find is sleeves for the cab and body mounts... anyone know where to get any? another think... I would like to find a heater i can mount in the engine bay... I have 66 finder wells so batt is up front next to radiator.... does anyone know of a heater that can fit there?

I kind of did the opposite I took my cab mounts from my 64 frame and modified it by taking the wedge piece out and then mounted them on a 75 frame which worked very well. i understand what you are saying and I personally don't think you would have alignment or frame integrity issues. The rear cab mount remained the same correct? If so you should have no issues. Don't know what you mean by sleeves?

As for a hood there was a guy named Adam from the muscle car shop that had some parts in CA, website is themusclecarshop.net he ships used parts and can probably help you.

A rear third member maybe be found at a local wrecker if you have one, and it may be better to get a newer 31 spline i believe mine had the bigger rear shoes which give me a little more stopping power.

Have fun sounds like you still have lots to do!

yeah... the rear cab mounts are the same... sleeves for the bushings for the body and cab mounts..

Thanks for the site.... I sent and email to the muscle car shop... i didnt see a hood in their inventory list...

As far as my local salvage yard.. over the past 10 years part have depleated.. some yards are straight up crushing everything ... and now that i think of it.. about 3 years ago I took some axles out of a truck... i hope its still there.

Hey there GT, just picked up a 62 Unibody myself last fall. Plan on driving it for the rest of this year (cause I traded my everyday driver for it) and then start my rstoration. I am thinking my frame off is a couple of years in the future. I'll be following your resto if you keep this going. How about a couple of pics of where your at right now?

Good luck and if you feel like it keep us posted here, it might help me when I do mine.
