more 302 swap questions

I have more questions regarding my 5.0 swap in my 66. First, I am using a 73 3 speed and bellhousing, and I know I need a 50 oz flywheel because my engine is an 87. My question is which clutch do I use? stock Bronco or the clutch that matched the flywheel, and what application do I need the fly wheel from? Some have told me I have to use a Mustang flywheel, but that limits me to a 10" clutch. Would a 83 and up 5.0 truck/bronco flywheel work? Next what about starters, use the 73 or whatever I get the flywheel from? I think I need a 164 tooth flywheel.

Ok, now for my last question, has anyone swapped a 6 cyl bronco to a v8? I know I have to have the L-brackets to mount the radiator, and I have to cut the old 6 cyl mounts off. What do I do with the battery tray as it is bolted to side of 6 cyl mount.
Sorry for the long post. Any help would be appreciated.

I have converted a 6 to an V8, and with using the six trans&transfer case it came out to be shorter on the Mtr. mounts, at least as I remember it wasn't perfect
As far as flywheels go you can use a 11" flywheel from a Windsor as long as you use the starter plate between eng. and bellhousing that came with that W351 flywhl. as far as balance for the 5.0 engine flywheel goes, I didn't kno it mattered.
Another thing is the six Bronco has smaller brakes.
The Bronco we're doing we put Disc brakes on rear and our 76 Chassie came w/disc on front as well as power steering powerbrakes. We are using a Corvette dual disc master cylinder.
We mounted the battery behind the drivers seat.

I put a 80's 302 in my 71 with a toploader 4 speed. I had to use the 50 oz flywheel which was the same diameter as the older 302 flywheel. Use a diaphram clutch. They are easier to operate and less apt to chatter. I think mine was an 11".

The fun started when I put the 50oz harmonic balancer on. By the time I got the pulleys to work, I ended up with a water pump with the outlet on the wrong side. I finally ran the lower hose across the radiator. My flywheel came from a 80's truck with a 302 and a np435.

Mike,
Use a '88 302 truck flywheel with the same application clutch. You can use a stock Bronco manual trans starter.

I can't recall a difference between a 6 cyl and V8 battery mounting. The battery tray mounts on the 2 vertical supports between the core support and the RH inner fender.

I just remembered where the difference is in the 6 & V8 trans, the output shaft and the housing that connects 3spd.Trans. to the transfercase is shorter on the six and 1st. gear is a lower ratio then the 289/302. another thing I found is that a 4spd output shaft has to be machined to make the same length as the output shaft to transfercase, this means loosing the hardness then rehardening after machineing,

Mike W,

Here is what I am doing for my waterpump situation. I am using a stock 73 waterpump, with a standard rotation serpentine pulley off of a Lincoln 5.0 and retaining the serpentine belt set up. I think it may just work......

Mike, interesting info on the water pump. Let us know how it works out.

Another tip. For the floor shifter I made a cover out of 1/16 steel that covers the cutout for the shifter and goes almost all the way across the hump. I covered it with carpet and attach with 5 or 6 sheetmetal screws. It is easy to take off to get to the shifter.
