How in the heck do I remove the oil pressue sending unit?

I seem to remember that I tried using an oil filter wrench on the sender itself, managed to tear off the whole top part, which exposed the nut nicely and I used a socket to get it off.. Not sure I'd recommend that approach, during the episode I also fell out of the truck while wearing inappropriate safety gear, snapped a toenail pretty much in half and had some pretty ugly scrapes.

Thanks. I mangled the unit but couldn't get it to come apart much. Darn these old Motorcraft units are tough.
Now I know why there are two different units for these trucks. Maybe someone got smart and figured it would be easier to give someone more than 1/4" to get a wrench in there.
Don't you hate when you plan on doing one little thing and it turns into a huge project?
Chasing vacuum leaks-thought EGR was bad-removed.
Found bad choke pull off-replaced
Then found loose vacuum tree on manifold, can't tighten or remove it without taking off sending unit.
Can't get sending unit off, go buy more tools and new sending unit. .................
Now I know why there are two different units for these trucks. Maybe someone got smart and figured it would be easier to give someone more than 1/4" to get a wrench in there.
