Manual Trans first gear syncronizer

Does the 6 speed manual have syncronizers in all forward gears. I have owned older trucks that didn't have them in first gear, and a 2000 F350 diesel I just purchased shifts like there is no syncronizer in first (not low, but the second lowest gear labeled "1" on the shifter), I figure it wore out, but just wanted to know for sure it had one to begin with.

It comes with a syncro, but I never downshift into first, except maybe while rolling very slowly. What speed are you trying to downshift at?

Thanks, thats what I thought but wanted to know for sure. I'm probably going 3-5 mph when I grind it. I'll probably get better at self syncronizing it, but I've just started driving it. I'll check with a trans. builder to see how much it might cost to fix.

When you downshift try pushing the shifter slowly till you feel the gears syncing and slide it into gear rather than pushing it into gear . Mine does it in almost every gear and thats how I overcome the problem,
I have a friend that a tranny mechanic he would rebuild it for me for cost of parts and using OEM parts it would be @ $1200 Max. But thats No Labor and using genuine Ford parts.
If I did it through the Company he works for it would cost @ $2500 Including labor
and they are giving me a discount,
Either way shifting slow is alot cheaper.

This is how I shift mine as well. I even try to do it on the way up. I know that my syncros are fine but there are definatley sweet spots rpm wise and how quick I go between gears. If I'm shifting at the right rpm and moving between gears at just the right speed it feels like I don't need a clutch at all.

Ya I just had 1-2, 3-4 syncros replaced because mine were really bad. And the shift forks are weak so if you have to force it into gear eventually you will bend a shift fork then it gets really hard to shift. Trust me. I spent about 1700.00 replacing 3 shift forks and 4 syncros. They got it done in 1 day.

So do I understand it right that first and second gear share a synchronizer ring? Can one end be worn where it only has the problem in first gear and work properly in second gear? It is easy to get into gear when stopped, but when I have a load of up to 5 tons, I have to start in low up hill and shift to first, which is where the problem occurs.
